Nicosia, Cyprus | 16 July 2025 – Cyprus Public Transport is proud to participate in WISE (Digital Transport Twin for Wireless Charging Infrastructure of Smart Public Urban Buses), an innovative research and development project that will deliver Cyprus's first pilot wireless charging infrastructure for electric buses. The initiative represents a major step forward in the country's transition towards smarter, cleaner, and more sustainable public transport systems.
The project is a strategic collaboration between the University of Cyprus, Cyprus and Nicosia Public Transport, SVMENERGY NET LTD, and the Municipality of Strovolos. Coordinated by the University of Cyprus, WISE aims to strengthen cooperation between industry and academia while developing innovative solutions for future smart city applications.
Building on the successful outcomes of the EMS4PVBEV project, WISE combines wireless charging technology, locally generated solar energy, energy storage systems, and artificial intelligence–driven fleet management tools to create a new generation of sustainable public transport infrastructure. The pilot installation will be deployed at CPT's facilities in Geri and will support the development of more efficient and environmentally friendly electric bus operations.
WISE brings together clean energy, wireless charging, and artificial intelligence to create the next generation of smart public transport infrastructure, supporting the transition towards zero-emission urban mobility.
The project officially commences on 1 September 2025 and will run for 24 months. By combining research excellence with real-world deployment, WISE demonstrates how collaboration between public transport operators, research institutions, local authorities, and technology providers can accelerate innovation and contribute to a more sustainable future for mobility in Cyprus.
